I have a friend who I am trying to teach basic blackjack strategy. However, I have great trouble explaining to him why he should not split 10s or double on an 8 against a 7. Nothing seems to work, not the internet tables, not mathemathical models, not simple common sense. Can you tell me if you know of any way of convincing him of his gross lack of intelligence, so that he accepts the way?
I have made some rough calculations and found out that when you hit until 17 with 8 against 7, you have 55,6% equity in the hand, while if you double on an 8 against 7, you have 46,7% equity which is the equivalent of 43,6% equity because of the twice higher stake. Also, standing on A-7 against 6 has 62% equity versus doubling down which has 60% equity and is obviously better. Is that correct?
